What is a Band Review?

A band review is a judged competition of marching bands. Band Reviews include some or all of the following: parade competition, concert performance competition, and field show competition. Throughout the fall in Northern CA, Band Reviews are hosted by many high school programs. As a part of the Northern California Band Association's program, the Foothill Band Review strives to provide a positive learning and competitive experience for all participants.

The Foothill Band Review

Every year since 1974, on the 4th Saturday in October, the top high school bands in Northern California and Nevada have gathered in Pleasanton for the Foothill Band Review. On October 25, 2008, for the 34th time, we will carry on this grand tradition of hosting the biggest, most competitive, and best-run band review in our area of the country. And this year, once again, we’ll showcase Pleasanton and the Foothill Band Program as we welcome over 50 high schools for parade, concert and field show competitions.

Mark your calendar now! Bring the grandparents, other family members, and friends. The high schools and middle schools parading down our Main St. is a wonderful sight and experience. The parade competition runs from approximately 8:30am until 1:00pm in downtown Pleasanton. There will are also concert competitions during the morning. In the afternoon, the parade awards will be presented at the football stadium at Foothill High School, starting around 2:20pm The field show competition begins after the awards ceremony has concluded, around 4:00pm, and lasts until 10:00pm, followed by the presentation of field show competition and sweepstakes awards.

For Band Directors and Competitors

Welcome!  Last year we ran a full slate of classes for 50 parade bands, 22 concert bands and 24 field show bands.  We handed out over 120 trophies and awards, including two new instruments.  The parade competition launches from Amador Valley High School and marches down Main Street, right through our downtown.  The parade awards and field show are held in the afternoon and evening at Foothill high School, overlooking the Tri-Valley area.  We believe we offer one of the nicest venues for a band review.  Band directors over the years have consistently lauded our organization  - we strive to make it easy for you.  Last year, we had hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, baked potatoes, chow mein, ice cream, sno-cones, Starbucks coffee, and a full selection of great choices at our concession stands – we can satisfy all of our hungry students and their families.

Please join us on Oct. 25th this year.

Click here for a printable version of the Foothill Band Registration Form.  You'll need the *free* Acrobat Reader installed to read and print this form.

All entry forms must be postmarked by October 1, 2008.

For Foothill Band Parents

We are very proud to carry on this grand tradition of hosting the biggest, most competitive and best run band review in our area of the country?  34 years of showing off our town, our school, our band program and our students.

Many Hands Make for Lighter Work and More Fun

We have a well-developed and time-tested program for putting on the Band Review, but to be successful, we need your participation. There are more than 300 volunteer positions to be filled, all well defined and ready for you to step into. These positions occur at all different times during Band Review day, with a few of them before the big day and a few afterwards. We ask every family to take at least two spots.

Want to do more?  We have team leader positions for many facets of the Band Review.  We have many lead openings for the 2008 Band Review. Please strongly consider volunteering, as these positions must be filled in order to hold the Review.  Some of this year's open lead positions include: Concessions, Parking, Administration, Trophies and Sponsorships, Student Volunteer Coordinator, and Adult Volunteer Coordinator.  Ready to help, but worried about lack of experience?  We will also need shadows in many other positions, including Concert Coordinator, Administration, Facilities, Security, and Chairman.  The shadow assists the lead this year and should be able to easily take over next year.  If interested in any of these opportunities to help the band program, please contact Bob Babb at foothillbandreview@comcast.net.

Band Review Is Also a Fund-Raiser

The Band Review is the largest fund-raiser of the year for the Band Boosters. Its success will help us pay for new instruments to replace older and worn out ones. This fundraiser also pays for the instructional assistants that help make the Foothill Band as successful as it is. By selling tickets to the field show, programs, souvenirs and lots of food at both sites, we help keep our band program going strong.

We also sell sponsorships for the many trophies and awards we give out. These sponsorships are an essential part of the fundraising. Please sponsor a trophy! Click here to see the complete list and prices. Consider one or more trophies, perhaps together with other families. Perhaps you’d like to make it in honor of someone, like your graduating senior. Do you own or work for a business that would like some exposure and good will? Trophy sponsors get their names in the printed program, and are announced during the presentation ceremony.  You can present your donated trophy to the winner or designate someone to present the award on the field, if you wish.

The Trophy Sponsors Team can handle all of the details. Contact the team at foothillbandreview@comcast.net and let them know which awards you would like to sponsor. They will take care of all the paperwork and send you a tax-deductible receipt for your sponsorship donation. Or use the Award Sponsorship Form by clicking here

We also sell advertisements in the Band Review program. Consider purchasing space to advertise your business or express your best wishes. The program will be viewed by over 800 families from Northern CA and Nevada. The ads come in four sizes. To see samples, click here. If you would like to sponsor an ad in the Band Review Program, send an email to foothillbandreview@comcast.net or use the Ad Sponsorship Form.

Perhaps you have a friend, business associate, or know a professional service provider who would consider an ad in our program or sponsoring an award Please ask them to support the Foothill Band! Please use this letter along with the appropriate form(s), linked above, to explain the sponsorship activities.

Looking for a way to show appreciation for your child or the band (and make a donation at the same time) at this year's Band Review?  Click here to find out how.

The last and easiest opportunity to support the band is to purchase a personal dedication that will be announced during the awards ceremony.  You provide the message and the announcers will make it loud and clear for $5. Send an email to foothillbandreview@comcast.net with your dedication.
